NIFA (Nordic Innovation Food Arena) is an enterprise cluster for food and drink producers in Värmland, Sweden.

NIFA offers brokerage services, network support and skills-development initiatives in a number of areas such as business intelligence, business and market development, and innovation processes. NIFA offers companies within the entire food supply chain the opportunity to get help finding the right contacts, the right tools and the right financing to develop their business into a profitable and competitive company.

NIFA currently has over one hundred members, both large and small, from all parts of the food supply chain. The organisation has an established partnership with local authorities, Region Värmland, the County Administrative Board, LRF (Federation of Swedish Farmers) and Karlstad University in which we come together to create the best possible conditions for development and innovation.

The partnership with Karlstad University currently focuses primarily on translating product logic into service logic, which requires a great deal of innovativeness among operators in the food sector. This is facilitated through three work packages – service design, interventions and circular business models.

NIFA has many years’ solid experience working on regional and international development projects. The organisation has run a number of EU projects (European Regional Development Fund, Interreg, European Social Fund), national projects (Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth, Swedish Board of Agriculture, Vinnova) and regional projects (Region Värmland, County Administrative Board).

In 2022 NIFA was tasked by Region Värmland with serving as a platform for its work involving smart specialisation with a focus on food (Food in Sustainable Interactions).

NIFA currently has 10 employees whose work encompasses business and market development, analysis and evaluation, communication and project management.

NIFA is continually open to interesting new partnerships that involve international cooperation and benchmarking related to R&D, business development and market development.
